Actors Lounge

What is the Actors Lounge

Taking responsibility for your acting career is the main aim of the Actors Lounge. With fantastic Industry Professional Mentors available to give you advice and guide you forward. It is still up to you to develop your own technique, develop a sellable and polished product (being you) and learn how the industry works to make it work for you. Acting is a business and the Actors Lounge works by that principle.

The Actors Lounge is about taking advantage of and creating your own opportunities and working with others to help each other, challenge each otheMark DeFriest, Fern Nicholson and Debbie Thoyr and improve the knowledge and skills of our actors and filmmakers here in Perth. When you learn something....pass it on. It also encourages you to network and make contacts.

All workshops are designed to challenge actors and bring to attention any problems and give solutions on how to improve and where to do this. Our Instructors are all Industry Professionals or professionals in their field who are passionate about acting and the film industry. The Perth Film Network are lucky to have passionate and talented mentors in Mark DeFriest, Fern Nicholson and Noel O'Neill to name a few.

Debbie Thoy is available for support and marketing advice.

Actor Showcases will also be held. We will invite Agents, Directors and Casting Directors. It is a good way to practice your performance skills and showcase your talent.

Actor Dinners are held Bi Monthly at partner restaurants. This is an opportunity to mix with other actors and Film Industry Mentors. A relaxed environment where you can network, form acting support groups and get advice.

The Actors Lounge is all related to acting in some form. However, Actors need direction, they also need great scripts and Directors need actors to build their skills and Writers need actors to run their scripts. So the Actors Lounge runs workshops and events that also benefit Directors and Writers.

The Actor Dinners is Member Exclusive, so you need to be a Perth Film Network Star or Starbiz member to attend. Workshops are open to both Members and non members. To become a member click here

Actor Workout Workshops

INSTRUCTORS: FERN NICHOLSON, NOEL O'NEILL AND MARK DEFRIEST

Work with two of Perth's top Industry Acting Professionals, Fern Nicholson and Noel O'Neill, and then with Industry Professional Director, Mark DeFriest.
Are you ready for a challenging and inspiring 6 weeks?

Actor Workouts is a structured 6 week Advanced Acting workshop, designed to hone your skills and challenge you as an actor. Working with two industry Acting Professionals, Fern Nicholson and Noel O'Neill and Industry Professional Director Mark DeFriest, the workshops are designed for the actor who is ready to enter a more professional and dedicated level of acting and move forward with their careers. These are advanced level acting workshops and you will need to apply to attend the workshops and possibly audition. These workshops are designed to challenge you as an actor.

These workshops do not teach you how to act, instead they aim to improve your acting and push you to new levels, pinpointing your safe zones and challenging you to push through them and make choices.. Actors work on one script over the six weeks, working 2 weeks with Noel O'Neill as acting coach and then you move into two weeks with Fern Nicholson, also as acting coach. Both these Instructors have different techniques and approaches to acting and will also redirect you. It is then up to you to decide what works for you to bring the best performance forward, by taking the advice from both acting coaches over the 4 weeks

You then move into two weeks working with Director, Mark DeFriest. This will be treated like you are working on a professional set. Mark expects you to be totally prepared. Mark is your director for your scene and he will block the scene with you, work on hitting your marks and what is required by you as an actor on set, he will be working for the best possible performance from you.

The scenes are filmed and later edited. The scenes are filmed for educational purposes, for you to revise your performance and receive feedback.
A feedback session is organised after editing has been completed where you will receive constructive feedback on your performance and what you should be working on, plus any other advise that you may want or need to know.

Our aim is to prepare actors for the professional world and so that is exactly how the workshops are run. It is up to the actor to be fully prepared before attending. So you, with your assigned partner, need to find an appropriate script to work with and make sure you are totally prepared. You know your character and your lines.

The principle is simple. You turn up to a workshop, just like you would turn up on set...PREPARED! In the real world no one will do this for you, no one cares. They are only interested in what you can do for them and their film and there are plenty more actors out there who can do the job. Remember these workshops are for actors with experience.

Scripts are chosen by you and your partner and sent through for appoval. You may also request your acting partner if you wish, however be aware that they may not make it through the audition process and we would prefer that you work with someone you have not worked with before.

Actors need to be prepared to be pushed hard in these workshops and put the research in.

This is an adult class, however children over the age of 15 may be able to participate. A meeting with the actor and parent is necessary.

These workshops are also designed so that you can come back and do the workshop again and again, knowing it will be different every time.
