Actor Workouts is a structured 6 week Advanced Acting workshop, designed to hone your skills and challenge you as an actor. Working with two industry Acting Professionals, Fern Nicholson and Noel O'Neill and Industry Professional Director Mark DeFriest, the workshops are designed for the actor who is ready to enter a more professional and dedicated level of acting and move forward with their careers. These are advanced level acting workshops and you will need to apply to attend the workshops and possibly audition. These workshops are designed to challenge you as an actor.
These workshops do not teach you how to act, instead they aim to improve your acting and push you to new levels, pinpointing your safe zones and challenging you to push through them and make choices.. Actors work on one script over the six weeks, working 2 weeks with Noel O'Neill as acting coach and then you move into two weeks with Fern Nicholson, also as acting coach. Both these Instructors have different techniques and approaches to acting and will also redirect you. It is then up to you to decide what works for you to bring the best performance forward, by taking the advice from both acting coaches over the 4 weeks
You then move into two weeks working with Director, Mark DeFriest. This will be treated like you are working on a professional set. Mark expects you to be totally prepared. Mark is your director for your scene and he will block the scene with you, work on hitting your marks and what is required by you as an actor on set, he will be working for the best possible performance from you.
The scenes are filmed and later edited. The scenes are filmed for educational purposes, for you to revise your performance and receive feedback.
A feedback session is organised after editing has been completed where you will receive constructive feedback on your performance and what you should be working on, plus any other advise that you may want or need to know.
Our aim is to prepare actors for the professional world and so that is exactly how the workshops are run. It is up to the actor to be fully prepared before attending. So you, with your assigned partner, need to find an appropriate script to work with and make sure you are totally prepared. You know your character and your lines.
The principle is simple. You turn up to a workshop, just like you would turn up on set...PREPARED!
In the real world no one will do this for you, no one cares. They are only interested in what you can do for them and their film and there are plenty more actors out there who can do the job. Remember these workshops are for actors with experience.
Scripts are chosen by you and your partner and sent through for appoval. You may also request your acting partner if you wish, however be aware that they may not make it through the audition process and we would prefer that you work with someone you have not worked with before.
Actors need to be prepared to be pushed hard in these workshops and put the research in.
This is an adult class, however children over the age of 15 may be able to participate. A meeting with the actor and parent is necessary.
These workshops are also designed so that you can come back and do the workshop again and again, knowing it will be different every time.
